Summary

The packaging promises a fruit infused and spicy bar of chocolate. Considering I have a passion for spicy foods, and I live citrus flavours and spicy foods, this should be an experience, should it not...?

Or maybe some things are better left apart? As that was certainly the feeling I got when tucking into this bar of contradictions. You see chocolate is already great. It doesn't really need much to improve its flavour. When you think about all the different types of chocolate bar in your average sweet shop, you'll notice that the crunchies, the fruit 'n' nuts, the caramels, the double deckers and the raisin 'n' biscuits of this world are all more concerned with changing the texture of what you're chewing on, rather than having a significant impact on how it actually tastes. Chocolate Orange being the one notable exception.

And this is the problem with Montezuma's Chilli & Lime. Of course the novelty value is all good fun, and it's all very good when take the first couple of bites and think to yourself "ahhh so that's how it tastes", but after the wow factor has worn off you soon find that the citrus and the warm hit of the chilli are simply getting in the way of your chocolate enjoying pleasure.

It's not that it tastes bad, as such. In fact it's fine. But you just keep wishing the lime and chilli would disappear and leave you to enjoy the chocolate in peace.

Conclusion

Buy one if you want a talking point at an evening gathering. Maybe buy two if you're feeling generous: if the second one doesn't get eaten you can always give it away for Christmas. Don't buy it for the love of chilli, lime, or chocolate!
